Bean On Bar is built around the coffee habit loop: identify the bean, understand the context, brew with guidance, log what happened, and make the next cup easier.
Capture or choose a bag photo and let Apple Vision read the label on-device. The app suggests roaster, bean, origin, variety, process, roast level/date, tasting notes, price, and weight — but every field remains yours to correct.
Visible label details become a Context Score. Cited reviews, competition recognition, and roaster-stated cues appear as separate Taste Signals—not a mysterious verdict.
Start from an unknown, identified, or saved bean. Choose V60, Switch, Orea, Origami, or espresso; scale the dose, translate grind ranges to supported grinders, run timed steps, and save the result back to the bean.
Save beans, ratings, recipes, brew logs, price-per-gram history, tasting notes, and watchlist matches. Export JSON backups or use optional iCloud Drive backup so your notebook is not trapped.
APP CAPABILITIES
The app’s strongest details are not flashy. They are the bits that make coffee decisions feel fair: editable reads, visible reasoning, practical brew guidance, and user-controlled data.
Apple Vision reads label text from the camera or photo picker on-device, keeping the app useful without needing to upload bag photos for the first read.
The parser now handles coffee names, farm/region/country splits, roast dates, tasting-note labels, known OCR variety misreads, and multi-variety labels like SL28 + SL34.
Price per gram is compared against the user’s own saved history in the same currency, with ratings and “brew again” actions tied to real saved beans.
The home screen can surface the current bean and open the recipe timer immediately, so the app feels useful even before a large notebook exists.
Classic, modern specialty, turbo, ristretto, lungo, latte, and flat white styles get dose/yield targets, temperature logic, and grinder-specific guidance.
Travel mode routes users toward regional coffee sources, nearby cafe research, and “what’s good now” community examples while clearly marking static prototype data.
Export and restore local Bean On Bar data as a file, so the app can stay account-free while still giving users a way to protect their coffee memory.
Users can opt in to anonymous product events that improve the flow, while coffee notes, label text, photos, prices, and locations stay out of analytics.
